For those of us who are here in the USA and who watched The Filipino Channel (TFC), we are so familiar with the line “Xoom.com, I love it! Don’t wait in line, do it online”.

For the past years, I have been using the usual bank to bank money transfer from here to the Philippines. That means:

  1. Getting in my car to go to my US bank to withdraw cash. I must do it between 9am to 6pm on weekdays and 9am to 3pm on Saturdays
  2. Then I have to drive some miles to go to a Philippine bank branch or US counterpart.
  3. I have to wait in line for my turn
  4. Have to pay $7.00 flat rate for remittance below $3,000.00.
  5. Drive back home and text or call family in Cebu that the money is on its way
  6. Then they get it a few hours later.

A few months back, due to constant TFC viewing, and with its promise that “your loved ones will get their money in hours, not days”, I tried xoom.com. That means:

  1. In the middle of watching Kambal sa Uma around 8:00pm, I can log in to xoom.com
  2. I fill out some ID questions
  3. Key in information of the remittance
  4. Pay $3.99 (Fees vary depending on remittance amount)
  5. Click Authorize

XOOM!!! It’s done.

Plus

    * I get email confirmation of the transaction
    * I get email confirmation when the transaction is completed - meaning, if the money has been picked up.
NICE……

Two days ago, I sent two remittances for two different beneficiaries who needed it right away. I was confident they’ll get it ASAP.

Guess what?

Today, Saturday; I learned from an email from one of the beneficiaries that there’s a 4-day holding before they can release the money.

Huh?

Calling customer service does not help at all. How can they continue to advertise “ready to pick up in hours, even minutes” when they hold the fund for four days??? Even as I am writing this blog, I still can view this xoom.com commercial promising “ready in hours” not days as I watch TFC programs.

Way klaro!!!

(ten times thumb’s down)

Siguro after this, I guess I have to go back to my old fashioned bank to bank remittance. mag sight-seeing na lang ko along the way, bisan wala gud kaayo sights besides sidewalk.
